Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System This Season.

Wimbledon tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Video review systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Competitors will gain the right to question certain decisions from the official, mirroring the protocol already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

The new system will be operational on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This development arrives only a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine other situations, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.

Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can initiate.

Practical Application

An illustrative example occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.

Growing Trend

Video reviews aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Further Updates

Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.

Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
